Trump’s $1.5T Budget Means CMMC Or No Contracts

President Trump just called for a massive $1.5 trillion defense budget for 2027. That is huge news for machine shops, but there is a major catch attached to that cash.

If your shop isn't compliant, you won't see a dime of this money.

What Happened

The President wants to pump $1.5 trillion into national defense. For guys like us, that usually means more orders for brackets, housings, and aerospace parts. It sounds great on paper.

But he also signed a new Executive Order on contracting. He openly criticized defense contractors for waste and poor performance. He wants accountability.

In plain English? The government is done tolerating sloppy paperwork. The new EO suggests they are tightening the screws on who gets paid. If you thought CMMC was going away with a new administration, you were wrong. They are doubling down on "secure" supply chains.

Why Your Shop Should Care

This isn't just political noise. It hits your bottom line directly:

  • The Gate is Closing: This new spending comes with strings. You cannot bid on these lucrative 2027 contracts without hitting CMMC Level 2. No certificate means no bid.
  • The Math is Ugly: We are looking at roughly 83 authorized assessors (C3PAOs) trying to cover 118,000+ contractors. The bottleneck is real. If you wait until the RFP drops, you are already too late.
  • Audit Risks: The new Executive Order signals aggressive enforcement. They aren't just trusting your self-assessment anymore. They will check your work.

What To Do Next

Stop waiting for a repeal. It isn't coming. Do this now:

  1. Check Your SPRS Score: Log in today. If your score is low or outdated, you are painting a target on your back. Update it.
  2. Call a C3PAO: Get on a waiting list for an assessment. Even if you aren't ready, you need a slot. The line is months long.
  3. Segregate Your Network: Keep your shop floor machines off the office WiFi. It’s the fastest way to reduce your compliance headache.
  4. Budget for IT: Treat cybersecurity like a new 5-axis mill. It is an investment required to do the job.

Bottom Line

There is $1.5 trillion on the table. Your competitors are already moving to grab it. Don’t let a lack of cybersecurity kill your shop’s future.

Get compliant or get out of the supply chain.
